Ultimate Fighter 5 ResultsThere will be two fights next week, featuring Corey Hill vs Nate Diaz and Manny Gambaryan against Matt Wiman. I think Nate will take Corey easily, but the Wiman vs Gambaryan fight should be excellent. Friday, May 11. 2007

Ultimate Fighter 5 Results Last nights Ultimate Fighter 5 featured two fights:The first fight was Joe Lauzon vs Brian Geraghty. Let me tell you something, Joe Lauzon impressed me in this fight, even more than in his lightning quick TKO of Jens Pulver. Joe started quickly, landing punches, then taking the fight to the ground with a huge slam. He landed a great elbow when on the ground, then missed one, almost putting his elbow through the canvas. Geraghty managed to get up, but Joe Lauzon jumped on his back, applied a choke and finished the fight. Watch out for Joe Lauzon, he might just take this series. Winner : Joe Lauzon by choke submission. The second fight on last nights Ultimate Fighter 5 was Corey Hill vs Rob Emerson. Hill came out quickly, landing a flurry of punches and attempting a knee. It looked like this was going to be a war; but it wasn't. In the end, Corey did enough to win the fight, but he won in Tim Sylvia fashion, using his reach and occasional striking. To be honest, I was dissapointed with Corey Hill. With his aggressive style during training and attitude back at the house I was expecting a KO or be KO'd type of mentality...that's not what I saw. Give him some credit though, this was his first professional fight. Perhaps as he becomes more confident on his abilities he'll open up a bit in the ring. Rob Emerson on the other hand had no excuses for loosing this fight. Sure Cory Hill had a huge reach advantage, but Emerson was able to land leg kicks almost at will. Emerson walked through fire with Nate Diaz and I believe if he had gotten inside he could have either taken Corey Hill down, or dominated the stand up (inside). Winner : Corey Hill by decision (after a 3rd round was required). The two standout fighters so far in Ultimate Fighter 5 have been Joe Lauzon and Nate Diaz. I wouldn't be surprised if we see these two in the finals. Thursday, May 10. 2007

Ultimate Fighter 5 Predictions
Usually I don't do predictions for the Ultimate Fighter TV series. This is because usually we don't know who's fighting ahead of time until we get to the last couple of fights. However, because Gabe punked out last week we know about two fights which are happening this week.
Fight #2 in this weeks Ultimate Fighter features Corey Hill vs Robert Emerson. We really don't know much about Corey Hill from an MMA standpoint. He's tall, he should have a natural advantage during stand up/striking, but we really don't know how much striking he has done. He certainly looks dangerous during the show's promos. We do know that he was an extremely good wrestler at the high school level and should have done the same at college, but had some trouble. Of course, we all saw Rob Emerson take on Nate Diaz. The fight went to a decision, but I thought it was very close with Emerson even winning some of the stand up exchanges. So, the question with this fight is will the fight stay standing, or go to the ground. If it goes to the ground with Corey Hill on top, then it will be a long night for Rob Emerson. If the fight stays standing it could be anyone's match. I am very excited about this fight tonight. Prediction : Robert Emerson vs Corey Hill -> Corey Hill by decision This brings us to the first fight on tonights Ultimate Fighter 5 Fight #1 will feature Joe Lauzon vs Brian Geraghty We all know Joe Lauzon from his articles on UFC.com and his big TKO of Jens Pulver, but that was a very quick fight and we didn't get to see Joe's whole game. I'm guessing that his game is pretty good. Brian Geraghty has a decent record in smaller shows, but has yet to fight at the UFC level. Prediction : Joe Lauzon vs Brian Geraghty -> Joe Lauzon by ref stoppage. Thursday, May 3. 2007

Ultimate Fighter 5 - Did Gabe Ruediger Make Weight? That's the big question in this week's episode. The scheduled fight is Gabe Ruediger vs Corey Hill. It's starting to look like he's going to pull a Travis Lutter. Let's see if Gabe makes weight...stay tuned! This weeks episode starts out with Gabe eating cake, a big piece of cake. He's weighing 176 lbs and needs to get to 156 in order to make weight. For those of you weak in math, that's 20 lbs. The team manages to get Gabe down to 173 before the fight is called, but that's still 18lbs in 18 hours. In the end, Gabe did not make weight, he passed out and needed IV fluids. So, now the big question is...will there be a fight this week? Well, the fight didn't happen and Dana was pissed. He brought back Rob Emerson from team Penn and team Pulver gets to pick the next two fights. The next episode will have two fights. First fight: Joe Lauzon vs Brian Geraghty Second fight: Corey Hill vs Rob Emerson Thursday, May 3. 2007

Press Release from UFC.com
UFC® Returns to The Pearl at The Palms for The Ultimate Fighter® 5 Finale Las Vegas, Nev. – April 24, 2007 – When former UFC® Lightweight Champion Jens Pulver defeated the seemingly invincible BJ Penn in 2002, he shocked the world and proved that when it comes to the Octagon™, nothing is impossible. Ultimate Fighter 5 - Nate Diaz vs Rob Emerson![]() Corey Hill 1) Gabe gets a colonic. In possibly the worst tv experience ever, Gabe decides that a colonic is a good way for him to make weight. I have a question...does he not plan on eating again before he fights? Here's something for Gabe to try.
Ok, the chick giving the colonic was kind of hot, but other than that it was a waste of 15 minutes of air time. Gabe's team mates seem to think that he'd be better off training and sweating that having a tube shoved up his ass. I have to agree. In other news, team Pulver (or more accurately Jens) invited Jeremy Horn to work out with the guys and show them a thing or two about ground work. The segment mostly focused on Corey Hill and how impressed Jeremy was with Corey. In fact, much of this episode focused on Corey considering that Nate Diaz and Rob Emerson ended up fighting. In the fight itself, the first round was mostly a stand up battle. Diaz got caught with a couple of punches when he was coming off some standing submission and take down attempts. I had the first round pretty even. The second round was all Nate Diaz, he was winning the stand up, and took the fight to the ground and dominated there. Rob Emerson defended well for a while, but finally got caught in a rear naked choke.
