The Martial Arts

How is a form of Martial arts created?
How do we create our own ways of fighting? How does martial arts develop? Its not like we had some guide in creating a style of fighting. Who was the first to create a form of martial arts? How do we know if certain moves are effective in certain situations? When one creates a form of martial arts, how are they sure it is the best way to protect themself and the life of others?
It all just can’t poof out of thin air! How were we able to create and even think of martial arts? How did we tell that it would be a good form of combat?
I think the first martial art was created when someone decided to make a fist to hit an opponent over the head with it rather than just slap. Now the opponent had to defend against the fist and maybe picked up a stick to stay out of the fist’s way to hit back and so on. You get the idea.
Different Martial Arts are created for different reasons/needs. Self defense was one but nowadays there is not a whole lot of need for self defense so some martial art is taking the way of sports while others take the way of health. …and you have more styles…
Different styles for self defense were created for different abilities. A tall skinny person will have to use different techniques in a fight than a short and stout person. Some people are better on the ground than standing up so they expanded on that ability. Some martial arts were proven in real combat like Shorin Ryu. A lot of the Shorin Ryu masters were body guards to the Okinawan kings. Other martial arts were proven in a ring in a more sports related environment (Mas Oymas).
Your question is really an answer to why so many masters spent a lifetime on training trying to better themselves in their skill. If you want to be good it does take constant training and sine no 2 people are alike in built, skill, ability every person must find out for themselves what works. You may be training in just one style but in the end a good practitioner who has trained for many years will have found their own style and no 2 fighters even though in the same system will fight alike.
Great question. Have a star.
