Is it better for an average person to learn a striking or grappling Martial art?

I mean, most people aren’t interested in fighting in an MMA fight so it seems that a martial art that specializes in striking would be easier and quicker to learn.

I would say start from the ground up. Learn a submission art first. Then work on take downs. Then lastly work on striking. Striking takes awhile to get proficient at. Working from the ground up you see things differently how would to take someone down and what not after a certain attack is thrown.
